Dead River Adventure
(& The Hillsborough, too.)
- Date: Sunday, August 17
- Time: 10 am to 4:00 pm
- Location: Dead River Park
- Fee: $32 with your own kayak
- $64 with kayak rental
Join us for this first ever Sweetwater trip up Dead River (at least
that Don knows about). A couple of months ago Donna happened
to venture up Dead River from where it dumps into the Hillsborough
River. She thought it to be way cool and worthy of
venturing up further, but she had no more time that day. So,
now she gets to venture further on our August 17 adventure.
After the Dead River portion we'll proceed along the
Hillsborough River with whatever time we have left.

Weedon Island North
And, the Crab Shack
- Date: Friday,
August 22
- Time: 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm
- Location: Gandy Blvd. Demo Day Put-In
- Fee: $32 with your own kayak
- $64 with kayak rental
One of our favorite TGIF venues.
The trails on the north side are wider than when we last had a tour
there. It is much easier to get through. Plus, we have a
game or two which were so much fun on our recent "GAMES" outing. Way fun! After the paddle, Don is
buying snacks for everyone at the Crab Shack.
If you want drinks or more food, bring some money along.

Bishop Harbor, Terra Ceia River and Frog Creek
- Date: Thursday,
August 28
- Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Location: Bishop Harbor Boat Ramp
- Fee: $32 with your own kayak
- $64 with kayak rental
Hooray! The tide is
supposed to be good for us this day. This is a very shallow,
extremely tidally dependant estuary. If the forecast is
correct, we should have smooth sailing as we paddle in our search
for adventure mixed with tranquility and good fellowship.
Sweetwater's great lunch doesn't hurt any either.

Fort DeSoto, Bunce's Pass, and more . . .
Bumps if we are lucky
- Date: Sunday, August 31
- Time: 10 am to 4:00 pm
- Location: To Be Announced based on weather
- Fee: $32 with your own kayak
- $64 with kayak rental
The inside? The outside? Circumnavigate? There is
a lot of water to select from. We will
plan our rout based on the weather. Some have requested this
be on the gulf side to play in some small waves. And if we
have them, we shall play in them. If not, we'll play with
whatever we got.
The last write up about a trip to paddle
around Ft DeSoto
mentioned that there was a clothing optional beach there. One
of our customers got very upset about that. So just in case
you are easily offended, I will not mention anything about Ft DeSoto
having a clothing optional beach. :-)
Hope to see
you on our paddle somewhere in the vicinity of Ft DeSoto.RSVP (727) 570-4844

Instruction/Kayak Classes
|
Kayak classes at Sweetwater Kayaks are taught by trained and
certified (American Canoe Association and British Canoe Union) coaches. The
classes are taught in shallow, clear water just minutes from our shop. We cater
to the timid paddler, as well as the paddler who wishes to go outside their
‘comfort zone’. In other words, we have classes for the ‘Mild to the Wild’.
Jean Totz and Russell Farrow, Co-owners of Sweetwater, have
received training as world class coaches and have traveled as far away as Wales
and Vancouver to obtain advanced training in rough sea conditions. They also
have been certified to coach all levels of paddlers. Sweetwater can now certify
paddlers as guides and coaches through the
BCU program.
Our classes are kept small to ensure quality and safety. Most
classes have one coach for every four students. So call today and expand your
horizons.
